Promoting sustainable development

What we do

The Sazani Trust is an independent UK registered charity (No. 1155520) that aims to promote sustainable development – defined as “any development which meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs” – for the benefit of the public by:

  1. the preservation, conservation and the protection of the environment and the prudent use of resources;
  2. the relief of poverty and the improvement of the conditions of life in socially and economically disadvantaged communities;
  3. to advance the education of the public in subjects relating to sustainable development and the protection, enhancement and rehabilitation of the environment.

In order to achieve these aims the Sazani Trust works closely with its partner organisations, as part of Sazani Global Group, as well as with local and national governments, NGOs and the private sector in the UK, EU and overseas.

The group is made up of incorporated, independent and internationally recognised “Not for Profit” companies whose joint work with the Sazani Trust is underpinned by their shared values of participation, transparency, accountability, respect for traditional knowledge and the recognition of indigenous peoples rights.

Projects

Sazani Associates, a ‘not for profit’ organisation that forms part of the Sazani Global network, introduced rocket stoves to Zanzibar 2012 as part of their coastal livelihoods program and has embedded community champions to support the production and use of such stoves.
